The Legacy Awards program attracts a diverse group of luminaries, including renowned authors, publishing professionals, arts patrons, educators, and activists. This event serves as a unique opportunity for writers to connect with key industry figures while celebrating literary accomplishments and fostering a greater appreciation for Black writers. Previous honorees have included literary giants such as Ernest J. Gaines, Alice Walker, Nikki Giovanni, and Claudia Rankine as well as recent honorees such as “Queen Sugar” author Natalie Baszile and “James” author Percival Everett — voices that continue to influence the global literary landscape.
As a sponsor, your support would ensure that this unforgettable celebration continues and expands. The Legacy Awards are not only a tribute to literary achievement, but also a crucial part of the foundation’s year-round work to mentor and elevate Black writers. Since its founding in 1991, our programs have reached thousands of aspiring writers. The award-winning authors also lead writing workshops, master classes, and public readings, fostering a new generation of storytellers. Our college writing award, which has recognized talents like Tayari Jones, Mitchell S. Jackson, and Brit Bennett, has helped launch the careers of over 80 students, with many going on to publish their own works.
Your financial support will ensure that these essential programs continue to thrive. By joining us as a sponsor, you will be helping to uphold the enduring legacy of Zora Neale Hurston and Richard Wright, whose contributions to literature continue to inspire and challenge us.
