In this season of gratitude, we wish to thank you – and all the members of the literary community – for pressing on in the fight to bring equity to the literary landscape.

We face opposition. Of the 850 books Texas lawmakers hope to ban, more than 200 were written by people of color, feature Black characters or Black history, or explore racial injustice and political protest. Authors like Ta-Nehisi Coates, Ibram X. Kendi, and Jacqueline Woodson are on the list more than once. Citizen: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine is there, as is We March, an illustrated read-aloud book by Shane W. Evans.

Please help us in our 2021 Annual Appeal. Our workshops offer comfort and support to Black writers. Our award programs elevate the work of college, emerging, and established Black writers.

We need our voices. We need our stories to be told. We need you.
