Brittney Cooper

Brittney Cooper is Associate Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Africana Studies at
Rutgers University. She teaches courses on Black feminist theory, Black intellectual thought,
hip-hop, gender and media. Cooper is author of Beyond Respectability: The Intellectual Thought
of Race Women (2017), winner of the Organization of American Historians Merle Curti
Intellectual History Award, and Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower,
named a best book of 2018 by NPR, the Atlantic, and the New York Public Library, among
others. She is also co-editor of The Crunk Feminist Collection and co-founder of the Crunk
Feminist Collective and blog. Her work and words also have appeared at MSNBC, BET, NPR,
PBS, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, TV Guide, New York Magazine, Salon.com,
Cosmopolitan.com, and The Root.com.
